counterpoint to\u00a0Atlantis,\u00a0The Palm\u2019s\u00a0headline attraction.\u00a0However, as expectations for immersive\u00a0spaces grew, its set pieces and gentle narrative no longer reflected the resort&rsquo;s desired image.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The resort decided to refresh the aquarium\u00a0for an easily adaptable and story-led\u00a0environment,\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Depths of Discovery at the Lost World Aquarium<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Atlantis,\u00a0The Palm\u00a0partnered with\u00a0AVI-SPL and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/avispl.ca\/xtg\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">AVI-SPL\u2019s Experience Technology Group (XTG)<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to reimagine the experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Designing an interactive underwater world\u00a0with\u00a0experiential AV<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">AVI-SPL first outfitted the resort\u2019s entrance\u00a0zone\u00a0to\u00a0validate\u00a0the end-to-end approach for the Lost World experience. Visitors hear an original soundtrack and oceanic sounds. Acoustic grilles and architectural recesses hide subwoofers to preserve the design.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Over 25 interactive k<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the team enabled interactivity around a handheld Trident that triggers media, lighting, and sound through infrared receivers.<\/p>\n<p>Albala and Leishman emphasized flexibility in ecosystem management so staff can change seasonal content and perform system checks from a central office, not the server room. <a href=\"https:\/\/avispl.ca\/q-sys\/\">Q-SYS<\/a> Core X20 and <a href=\"https:\/\/avispl.ca\/crestron\/\">Crestron<\/a> CP4 manage the audio, logic, and interactivity. CAT extenders transmit video feeds. <\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                                            <\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"content page-block\" role=\"region\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"body-content\">\n\t\t\t<h2><span class=\"TextRun SCXW262167546 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW262167546 BCX0\">Bringing the aquatic experience to life<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">AVI-SPL\u00a0project engineer James Taylor led onsite\u00a0integration. Taylor and his team had\u00a0to translate projection studies, system designs, and bill of materials into a workable installation within an existing architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Working inside an existing space was the defining challenge. The aquarium\u2019s architecture left little room for repositioning equipment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cA retrofit like this always requires rapid re-engineering,\u201d says Taylor. \u201cBecause our timeline was\u00a0short, we\u00a0did not\u00a0have the luxury of reworking concepts from scratch. We had to make it work.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Preserving the underwater illusion<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">AVI-SPL faced integration challenges, such as projector placement near a tank in the Medusa room. Taylor\u2019s team collaborated with staff to encase the projectors in custom fiberglass enclosures to protect them from water and ensure reliability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Additionally, the team had to find a way to seamlessly stage and conceal 25 projectors in The Lost Chamber for 360-degree projection. But in the real world, you always find something you did not expect.
